He’s our baby! | Elizabeth, Jeremy, Jax

The walk up to the courthouse was filled with joy and anticipation. “Is this really happening? Are we going to really be the parents of this little boy?” Jax knew something important was happening today because he was all dressed up in his “smooth” suite! Of course, playing and drinking bottles was all he could think about at the time. He seemed excited to wear his cool new hat, for a little while that is, and seemed pretty amazed at how big the world was compared to him as they walked down the street.

Jeremy and Elizabeth began their adoption journey over a year ago. They wanted a baby, and more specifically, a Haitian baby. They started talks with the agency and began their classes. They were told, it would be hard finding what they wanted and good luck finding a Haitian baby. It probably wouldn’t happen. Shortly after they received a call saying there was one being given for adoption by a woman in Haiti who wanted a better life for her child. She doesn’t have the safest situation where she is and knew there had to be a family out there who would love this child. Jeremy and Elizabeth were so excited. They were able to be there for the ultrasound and experience the pregnancy and anticipation of becoming new parents and give comfort to the birth mother.  They didn’t know where the money would come from but knew God would provide and he did.

Friends and family arrived at the courthouse  with excitement, and a festive attitude filled the air and a little bit of nervousness! They entered the courtroom and exchanged smiles and a warm welcome with the judge. They were sworn in and promised their love, protection and support for baby Jax for the rest of his life. Tears filled their eyes as the papers were gladly signed and Jax legally became their baby boy! Jax was comfortably and safely asleep in his mom’s arms during the entire thing.

If there were one word stronger than love that embodied all the emotion and power contained in the universe I would use it here. Jeremy and Elizabeth have just that,.. The love only God himself could show. This couple shows the very love and face of God. Jeremy and Elizabeth are the best parents for this boy and there’s no doubt. God truly knows what he’s doing and planned this perfectly.

Thank you Jeremy and Elizabeth for letting me be a part of such an amazing time in your lives and for letting me in to this intimate circle. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and Jax!

In August 2008 my mother went into the hospital for a routine surgery. I,…… Like the amazing son I am,… forgot about it because,.. “It’s a routine surgery, they do it all the time. No big deal” I decided to go surfing with my son, friend Paul and his son. As soon as we got to the beach I received a call from my crying father. At first I thought, “no big deal, he always cries about everything”. He cries telling us bye sometimes. That’s just the way he is. I noticed this cry was different and didn’t stop. My father told me my mother was gone…

The doctors prepped my mother for surgery and gave her the proper doses of everything she needed. The surgery was to be 30 min. total. A routine surgery. I’m sure there is much more detail to include but i’m a little lost when it comes to that. Everything was ready and the doctor was just about to start when Mom went into Cardiac arrest and flat lined. One doctor tried for 45 min. to revive her and it didn’t work. The doctor came in an told my father the news. Dad called me to get me to the hospital so we could be together. I was in total disbelief and very shocked and not sure what to do. What can you do? Nothing… You can’t reverse death. I called my brother to inform him we were purchasing a ticket to fly him in the next morning to be with us. My friend Paul called his wife and a few others to start praying for our family. The doctor called his mother right then to have her start praying for our family and one of the nurses from our church who was attending at the hospital that day started praying and made a call herself. It took us 45 min to get to hospital, the same amount of time the doctor was performing CPR and it didn’t work. As I walked in with my son I didn’t know what to do, say or expect. I hugged my dad and we were both upset, helpless and lost. I was lost without my mother and dad was lost without his best friend. What do you do when your best friend of 37 years isn’t there anymore? Just then the doctor came in and told us. “I don’t know what happened but she’s back. Her heart just started again and we are trying to stabilize her!” Well, We were pretty damn happy about that! though she had been gone for a while and might have brain damage. We wouldn’t know for some time if she did and how severe it would be.

A note from the American Heart Association – Brain death and permanent death start to occur in just 4 to 6 minutes after someone experiences cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can be reversed if it’s treated within a few minutes with an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat. This process is called defibrillation. A victim’s chances of survival are reduced by 7 to 10 percent with every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation. Few attempts at resuscitation succeed after 10 minutes.

Mom was stabilized and being watched very closely. We were brought in to see her and she didn’t look so great. Here eyes were dilated and looked black and she was pretty unresponsive until the doctor yelled SUSAN! She started moving then but no-one knew if it was just the brains natural reaction or if it was her. Many things happened between that time and the next morning. Too much to type here. I could write a short book about the entire event. We walked in the next morning to a responsive Susan Stains! Wow! We still didn’t know if she was going to have brain damage or not. We all stayed by her bed and didn’t want to leave. She would wake up and take a little look around and go back to sleep. Her wrist were strapped to the bed so she didn’t hurt herself. We still didn’t know if she was all there… She was trying to move to pull at the tube going in her mouth and other things. She had no idea what happened. Eventually she shook her head yes and no to answer doctors questions and the straps came off! It took a while but we finally figured out she wanted a pen and pad to write on! She started writing and it didn’t even look like words as she looked to my Dad, brother and I to answer her questions. She kept writing and writing until we could finally see some form of letters. Finally a message appeared “What happened?” Smiles all around the room! The next few questions were, Where am I?  What time is it? What day is it? She looked to be just fine.. great but still waiting to see. She kept pointing to the tube in her throat and finally wrote something else down – ANNOYING! Ha! the tube is annoying. I think at that point we knew she was ok! My mom and dad have now been married 39 years.

Wendy and I brought my mother to Maggie Valley North Carolina for the first time in her life this year. We all plan on making the most of our lives and want to quit taking it for granted. Time is short here and your family is the most important thing you will ever have. Don’t let the little annoying things in life keep you down and take up your time. Look for, and take great joy in the little things that make you happy. A smile, a kiss, the wind in you hair or on your bald head i my case! Enjoy the blessing of life everyday! Spend time with your family and take pictures often to remember the great times you have. Splurge and get some professional family pictures taken once a year to preserve the history you have. We have started the tradition of having a family picture every year. Of course it’s by me but that’s one of the perks of being a professional photographer! I know my Mother and Father as well as Wendy and I treasure the family pictures we take every year and I never want to miss a year from now on. It’s a great documentation of the family and a reminder of where you are and where you’ve come from that year.

Best Friends of 39 years. (My inspiration)

If you are wanting great family photography and don’t know where to turn, give me a call. I’ll give you some great pictures you and your family will cherish for the rest of your lives.

He’s Iron Man, Superman, Spiderman – a pirate, an inventor, an artist, a photographer! avid movie watcher, dog trainer, hell raiser (sometimes) He just finished a year of tutoring and has become a great reader. He’s an amazing inspiration to his family, gets asthma flareups and plays right through them. He’s a fighter and has more energy than 20 hyperactive kids and likes to try to steal my coffee! He likes waffles every morning and pizza every night, juice boxes for every drink and cookie dough ice-cream for every dessert. He hates to wash his hair and doesn’t want to waist valuable play time in the bath or shower.

He’s the child of divorced parents, both of whom love him very much! He’s Loved by everyone who meets him and sometimes still feels alone. He’s a great listener and deep thinker and sometimes troubled by those thoughts, he’s a fiercely devoted friend, loves with his whole heart, cares for everyone, gives all of himself to anyone without wanting anything in return. He can hug you harder than a bear. He’s his dad’s best friend and wrestling, sword fighting partner. He’s the best damn kid anyone could ask for.

If you know and love Nate, or even if you don’t, leave him a comment at the bottom of this post to be shown to him on his upcoming birthday  (November 13th) and pass it around!

Yep they had two engagement sessions, because of rain. It rained on both of our photo sessions with them! See it here Heidi and Matt were married at the Ybor city museum garden and the wedding was wonderfully and perfectly run by Tammy Waterman of Special Moments. The Ybor city garden is a pretty great place to have your wedding. It’s an all in one wedding location. The Ybor garden museum and the surrounding Ybor city area has an awesome vintage, historic flair and is a perfect location for those wanting a wedding location with that perfect outdoor vintage and historic feel. Maggie is our totally awesome, extremely hyper dog! She’s more hyper than my son Nate, which can get pretty crazy sometimes. She gets really excited when we get home and is always at the door waiting to jump and say hello. She does this weird little talking growl which sounds like she’s actually saying something! Maggie has a cute little grin when she’s running around the house playing. She likes to run up the stairs and wait for us to get up there just to rub her belly! If we don’t go up she comes right back down with her little growl, like she’s saying “why didn’t you come up there” She also likes to get in front of us while we go up and just lay in front of us with her paws up.  She loves going outside and getting in the car for a ride. As soon as she sees her little red leash, she flips out, runs around in circles, jumps up and down. If we take too long getting that leash on she makes her little talking sound.  Sad thing is,.. Maggie is not feeling like running around today. She’s dog sick :( I figured i’d post this in honor of her today and hopefully she’ll feel much better soon! Here’s some pictures at play and then we’ll finish with some i took this morning of her pitiful little face.

Just in from outside!

In this one she just growled at me because I hadn’t let her off the leash yet!

Maggie at the top of the stairs waiting for one of us to come play!

Here’s Maggie today. Not feeling good enough to get out of bed :(

July is a pretty hot month just about everywhere you go but, everywhere is not as beautiful as North Carolina with its mountains, lakes, flowing rivers and streams, bordered by rocks and trees of all shapes and sizes. I love my job of taking pictures for awesome couples in beautiful wedding destinations.  I love North Carolina any time of year and love being there to work/play! This is the second wedding I have had the privileged of photographing in Chimney Rock Park Right outside Lake Lure, NC which is home to the fabulous Lake Lure Inn & Spa and the best salon I know in North Carolina  Lake Lure Salon & Spa.  Evey bride of every wedding I have photographed in Lake Lure has gone to the Lake Lure salon & spa. They do the best hair and makeup around and provide the most relaxing environment! Suzan and her bridesmaids got their hair and makeup done at the Lake lure salon and spa and had a wonderfully relaxing morning there. I showed up to that salon just assuming she would be there since it’s the best, and she was and surprised I knew she was there. Kinda fun! Suzan and John were such an awesome couple to be around. They seemed so relaxed which always makes the day run smoothly. Suzan happens to be extremely creative and made all the center pieces for all the tables and quite a few other pieces of eye candy which are shown here! Chimney Rock Park has a nice little lawn at the foot of the mountain which shows the mountain in the background and a beautiful view from the top of the chimney, which i have a picture posted here as well! I don’t usually take traditional style pictures but this view called for it so that’s’ what i did and Suzan & John are happy with it! One thing I love to do is feel out every situation as a piece of art and see what it calls for. I give each wedding the specific touch it needs to make it beautiful for that couple.

Final fun story for this post! – While photographing the wedding in Chimney Rock Park, I met a man named Jeff. Jeff runs a few things at the park and does it well and is a really great guy to work with. I have to say, He’s was one of the easiest guys I have ever worked with and very polite. He helped things run so smoothly for the couple and for me as well! I photographed the wedding, had a few chats with Jeff and said what a pleasure it was working with him, offered to give them new pictures for the park to use on the site and said goodbye. While talking to my wife about the wedding, 2 months later. (Yep I talk about all my weddings for years to come. I remember them all and love them all!) I told her about this cool guy at the park named Jeff. She said “funny, my friend Stephanie’s Husbands name is Jeff and he recently started working at the park there.”  ‘Really? hmm” i said, “That would be funny if it was the same guy” I asked Wendy what Stephanie’s new last name was and it was the same as this guy Jeff! I thought to my self
“No way”?!? We looked at Stephanie’s pictures right away to see if it was true and it was! Soooo crazy! Right?!?! It’s been a few months now and I still can’t believe it!

So, Here are a few pictures and lots of detail shots, because Suzan made everything!

I photographed this backyard wedding back in June and am just now getting it up to view which is how i work. I do tons of photo shoots all the time. Weddings, Engagements, Bands and other event photography. I have so much stuff happening and a ton more blogs I’ll be getting too eventually so keep in touch here and leave me a message from time to time!

Jenilee and Brian are a really fun and extremely cool couple. I didn’t meet them till the day of the wedding! Jenilee’s mother Cindy, called me months ago (which is always the best thing to do to book your wedding vendors) and told me she and her daughter loved my photography and wanted to have me photograph their wedding. I suggested a meeting as I always do but they were set and she asked how to book me and where to send the check? I love getting right to the point! As the title says, It was a backyard wedding kinda near Tampa, at a beautiful house on a private lake with little islands in the middle of it. The lake bottom was made of a different type which caused the water to be perfectly clear and blue! They also had their own little beach in the back yard – pretty cool! Backyard weddings are replacing the ballroom wedding because they are more intimate and a bit less expensive and it allows friends and family to be themselves in a familiar environment. I arrived a little early – say,.. an hour early! I really don’t like being late and brides don’t want you to be late either so I always do my best to make sure the bride isn’t stressed about that too! I took some detail pictures as Brian and some of the guys set up the entire wedding scene in the back yard. They did a great job. There Is always some pride to be had in setting up your wedding for you bride! I’m pretty sure that might be attractive to the bride as well! I never found out where the flowers came from or the cake! Cindy, if you happen to look at this leave a comment and let us know! Here’s a few of their awesome wedding pictures!

Chea & Billy are a wonderful and slightly reserved couple! They were such a pleasure to hang out with on their wedding day. I arrived at the church a bit early as I always do to see what sort of pictures i can get of the wedding venue before everyone gets there. I happened to arrive about an hour early! It took a good bit less time than I thought! guest started arriving as I was looking for the groom and even the bride. I finally found Billy in a back room talking to the priest. He asked if I had seen Chea yet? I said no but I heard she was soon to be there. We waited around for a bit as guest filled in the seats and I kept going back to the front of the church keeping a look out for Chea. She was running a little behind schedule but was still on time. Billy and I joked the we hoped she will show up and I had photographed all the groom, anticipation pictures I could ever get. I made my way to the front door of the church to inquire about Chea. Unbeknownst to us at the church, Chea was having dress problems!  I was at the fron of the church when the priest comes up to me and asked if I heard/knew anything of the brides arrival time? It had been about 15 min after the ceremony was supposed to start and a few people were a little nervous!  Chea finally arrived a bit flustered but looking stunning! We had the wedding and the rest of the day was a dream!

This post is in no way meant to reflect badly on Chea or to point out how much i think Billy looks like Tom Cruse. Just a reminder to check your details and time lines and know something might not go according to plan. The main thing is you are marrying your very best friend and you have soo many more days to spend together! Handle it with grace like Chea & Billy and cherish every single memory, even the ones that might seem bad at the time. You can laugh at them later as you reflect on all you have experienced together!

I am so blessed to do what I do and love and appreciate every single couple I get the honor to photograph their wedding. Thanks to Chea & Billy for letting me experience your love of life, friends and family!

Chea & Billy were married at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and their reception was held at Cove Cay Country Club. Cove cay is a wonderful site for a wedding and wedding reception. The staff is very friendly and willing to do whatever it takes to make your day as smooth as possible.

Every now and then we get to go to the most awesome place in the world….. North Carolina! We go every year as much as we can. My wife’s ( Wendy ) parents have a cabin in Maggie Valley surrounded by beauty! I always take pictures on vacation but never do anything with them. I don’t even print them to have around the house! Wendy always asks me to but i get too busy and forget or I just get too LAZY! I figured this is the next best thing to it and I get to share some of the beauty we see from my point of view. We have yet to make it up there during the right time of the year when all the leaves change and show God’s beauty, but I’m sure we will one day.

This summer we FINALLY talked my parents in to coming and they had the best time. They have never ever, ever been there. My mom likes to shop! LOVES to shop! and what better place to do it than in a place that has all the cute little shops you could possibly find. I happen to love shopping too but my shopping is usually for coffee, chocolate and the best restaurants around! I introduced my mom to the Chocolate bear in Waynesville, She loves it now too!

Wendy LOVES North Carolina and wants to live there one day. She is the cutest thing when she gets up there all bundled up in her blankets with a hot cup of coffee on the front porch. While we were there this time I ended up photographing a wedding in Chimney Rock Park for an awesome couple which will not be in this blog but is coming soon! I also ran across a couple just out in nature that wanted some family pictures so i shot some family pictures for them right there on the creek. Pretty fun.  We pass a place on the way up called Goats on the roof but never stop. We stopped this time and I took a few shots. There’s so much to do up there which is why we like it so much.  NC which is right outside of Maggie Valley. There’s soooo much i could say here but I might bore everyone so I’ll show some pictures and be done. Thanks for coming by. Leave a comment!

It’s not often I get to venture outside the Tampa wedding photography world, though I sure would welcome any opportunity. I AM cruising to Jamaica in October to photograph a wedding there! Pretty excited about that! I photographed a wedding for some friends of mine ( Mike & Mary – View it here! ) about a year before Carl and Sutton’s. Carl happens to be Mary’s brother and Sutton happened to love my pictures. She liked my pictures enough to fly me all the way to Santa Barbara, California! I can now proudly say “I am a Santa Barbara, California Wedding Photographer! I do coast to coast wedding photography! It was actually Buellton, California, right near Solvang and Santa Barbara. I arrived on a Thursday and was able to hang out and see the beautiful area for a few days before the wedding. I would be happy to spend the rest of my life doing wedding photography in Buellton and the surrounding area! The wineries are beautiful, views are amazing and I really LOVE the area! We visited The Bridalwood and Firestone wineries and a few others i can’t remember the names to. Both Bridalwood and Firestone winery are beautiful places for weddings and i hope to have one there soon! For anyone from the area reading this and wanting some really cool, fun wedding photography with a crazy fun photographer – Give me a call! I would LOVE to! Back yard weddings are becoming more popular and Sutton was one of the first to create this new trend. Sutton also had the awesome help of friends and family to create center pieces for the tables and all the decorations for the day. As I arrived I saw one of the ladies putting the finishing touches on her bouquet! Sutton’s parents worked extremely hard to have the entire property looking awesome for the day. It was nice to see everyone taking pride in what they were doing to bring together this amazing day for Carl and Sutton. Their families were amazingly wonderful to be a part of for the week. With no ceremony and reception rental cost Carl & Sutton were able to splurge a little on some photography which is how I got there! Back yard weddings are intimate and beautiful and I would suggest them to everyone! They save you money and allow you to hire a photographer that’s worth hiring to capture your day! You spend so much time preparing all the little details for the wedding but what’s the point if you don’t have it captured in a picture to remember and show your family and friends for years to come. Always hire the best and most fun photographer you can, and you will be sure to get great wedding pictures you will always love! Here are a few pictures from Carl & Sutton’s Santa Barbara Back Yard Wedding! To view the full day go to the on line gallery here or at the bottom of the page!

Enjoy!
