We had the privileged of meeting Krystal & Nick at a bridal show last year where they won a ton of stuff! I think they won 2 honeymoons, flowers, dress, and who knows what else. It was a lot. Since winning all that, they decided to splurge on their wedding photography and hire 12-1Photography! YEAH! We were excited when we got the call to go meet them and discuss their wedding photography needs.

Krystal & Nick decided to have their engagement photography session at the University of Tampa which happens to be a great place for any type of fun photography. We have yet to photograph a wedding at the University of Tampa. We’ve done many cool engagement photo sessions there! Krystal & Nick were excited and slightly exhausted from moving the day before but ready to rock out their engagement session with 12-1Photography! Nick likes Nacho Libre a bit and I hear there might be a plan to bring some nacho libre masks to the wedding to use in the Wedding Crasher! We’re pretty excited about that, if it happens! You better get on that Nick! We had a really great time walking around the University of Tampa finding great locations for cool engagement pictures. Here’s a few favorites. Let us know what you think!

Eddie and Windee…. What can we say! Eddie is just about as hyper as Reid and Windee is as sweet as pie and cute as a button and their kids are awesome. They are such a beautiful family. We had the absolute best time with them at the Don Cesar Beach Resort on St. Pete Beach, FL! We were so excited to photograph this awesome couple we arrived a bit early. Good for us because we got to walk the grounds of the Don Cesar and look for really great locations for bridal portraits that would showcase Eddie and Windee’s personalities and 12-1Photography’s unique style! It was a match made in heaven. The Don Cesar is a beautiful romantic beach resort on St. Pete Beach, FL and host quite a few weddings a year. If you know 12-1Photography, you know we are definitely up to the challenge of making cool wedding pictures with an artistic edge in such a beautiful beach resort setting. Eddie and Windee have a beautiful love for each other and for life. 12-1Photography’s goal is to showcase that in every couple who hires us. We feel we did a darn good job with Windee and Eddie! Here’s a sneak peek at Windee and Eddie’s Don Cesar Beach Resort Wedding pictures!

Megan & Josh are one of the coolest, most comfortable couples i have had to opportunity to photograph. Its like they were born in front of the camera! I’m not even as comfortable on the other side of the camera as they are. Though, all this could have something to do with my awesome ability to make people very comfortable with me! Ok, maby not. They were pretty awesome all by themselves.
It had been quite blustery in the Tampa area for a few days. I called Megan (concerned about her hair blowing) No big deal to her! They were ready to have some fun plus, Josh had just gotten his teeth whitened so he wasn’t about to miss this! We started out at the University of Tampa, which is always a beautiful place for engagement pictures! We took our time at the school, then decided to get in the car and drive around Tampa to see what we could find as great backgrounds for their engagement pictures. I happened to have a few places in mind which don’t get photographed too often. If you take a look off the side roads, Tampa is a great place to photograph engagement pictures, or pictures of any kind. I love Tampa and the surrounding areas and the fact that Tampa has some of the best places to photograph anything, if you know where to look! Here’s a few of my favorite pictures from Megan & Josh’s Engagement Session.

Danielle and Matt are an insanely cool couple who were looking for a fun, artistic photographer for their Clearwater beach wedding in Sand Key. Before they moved here, they needed help planning their wedding and enlisted the help of the wonderful 12-1photography wedding planner,… Reid! Ha! Yep, I helped them make their decisions. They wanted a beautiful beach wedding and a fun, relaxed atmosphere for their brunch, wedding reception! They chose to have their beach wedding ceremony at the Sheraton Sand Key and their wedding reception/brunch at the Island Way Grill in clearwater beach. The Sheraton Sand Key has a beautiful location for a beach wedding, complete with umbrellas for guest to shade themselves from the mid day sun. The Island Way Grill has both indoor and outdoor wedding and reception locations perfect for parties of 50 to just around 200. Don’t quote me on the 200 though! It may be a little bigger or smaller.

Danielle & Matt had a beautiful, intimate wedding on the beach with family and close friends. The weather was perfect and the mood was wonderfully fun and laid back! The day was fun and had a smooth even flow. After the brunch reception, we were able to go back to the Sheraton and have some fun and take some cool, creative, wedding pictures / bridal portraits, and we came up with some great ones! They all have the 12-1Photography twist of course!  The Florida heat kicked in during the middle of the day and everyone decided to relax with drinks by the pool at the end, but Matt and his guys weren’t happy with just hanging out by the pool. They decided to jump in and 12-1Photography was there to photograph it! It was the best ending to Danielle & Matt’s perfect day!

The vintage style has much appeal to all. It may be just because it looks cool or have a deeper meaning to some. It is classically beautiful and seems to enhance emotion while also creating an emotion of its own in each photograph. Holding a vintage photograph makes you think back to that time, or wonder what was that time in history like. The vintage photography look brings me back to a much simpler time when i didn’t worry about anything but playing! Weather its your parents wedding pictures or the latest historic photograph in a Time magazine, you wonder. What was the world like before me! We can now create photographs to look like they are from another time/antique, which gives them a sense of wonder. We have also created entire places that capture the old world, vintage feel in their setting. One place in St. Petersburgh, Florida does this well! The Postcard Inn. The Postcard Inn is literally right up the street from where I go surfing but I never knew it was there (as the postcard inn) It use to be another hotel which wasn’t taken care of very well. The new owners of the Postcard Inn have made it great!  Thanks to a wonderful couple, Dan & Maria from Pittsburgh, PA, I was show this awesome new place to photograph!

Maria loves the vintage look and feel. She had been searching the country for a hotel that had just what she wanted, so she could have a nice get away with her fiance and have a photographer give her awesome engagement pictures! She found a few in California and New York, but they were pretty dang expensive. She kept searching and found the Postcard Inn, which has been featured in many publications! Her next thing was to find a photographer she really loved! Maria found photographers she liked but none she loved, until one day in her exhaustive search she came across the coolest photographer she had ever seen!…..ME! Maria called me and we talked for an hour or so about her plan. She decided she wanted to use 12-1Photography for her engagement pictures down in St. Pete Florida! I of course agreed! I was so excited to have an awesome bride from PA call me!

When I arrived at the Postcard Inn and saw the place for the first time, and Maria in her awesome blue dress, smiling and ready for her engagement shoot, I knew we were going to have an awesome time capturing beautiful pictures for them to cherish. We had a great time hanging out at the Postcard Inn and created wonderful, classic, timeless photographs that will be treasured for the years to come. Here are a few of my favorites and the link to their engagement photo gallery for the entire shoot!

He’s our baby! | Elizabeth, Jeremy, Jax

December 3rd, 2010

The walk up to the courthouse was filled with joy and anticipation. “Is this really happening? Are we going to really be the parents of this little boy?” Jax knew something important was happening today because he was all dressed up in his “smooth” suite! Of course, playing and drinking bottles was all he could think about at the time. He seemed excited to wear his cool new hat, for a little while that is, and seemed pretty amazed at how big the world was compared to him as they walked down the street.

Jeremy and Elizabeth began their adoption journey over a year ago. They wanted a baby, and more specifically, a Haitian baby. They started talks with the agency and began their classes. They were told, it would be hard finding what they wanted and good luck finding a Haitian baby. It probably wouldn’t happen. Shortly after they received a call saying there was one being given for adoption by a woman in Haiti who wanted a better life for her child. She doesn’t have the safest situation where she is and knew there had to be a family out there who would love this child. Jeremy and Elizabeth were so excited. They were able to be there for the ultrasound and experience the pregnancy and anticipation of becoming new parents and give comfort to the birth mother.  They didn’t know where the money would come from but knew God would provide and he did.

Friends and family arrived at the courthouse  with excitement, and a festive attitude filled the air and a little bit of nervousness! They entered the courtroom and exchanged smiles and a warm welcome with the judge. They were sworn in and promised their love, protection and support for baby Jax for the rest of his life. Tears filled their eyes as the papers were gladly signed and Jax legally became their baby boy! Jax was comfortably and safely asleep in his mom’s arms during the entire thing.

If there were one word stronger than love that embodied all the emotion and power contained in the universe I would use it here. Jeremy and Elizabeth have just that,.. The love only God himself could show. This couple shows the very love and face of God. Jeremy and Elizabeth are the best parents for this boy and there’s no doubt. God truly knows what he’s doing and planned this perfectly.

Thank you Jeremy and Elizabeth for letting me be a part of such an amazing time in your lives and for letting me in to this intimate circle. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you and Jax!

In August 2008 my mother went into the hospital for a routine surgery. I,…… Like the amazing son I am,… forgot about it because,.. “It’s a routine surgery, they do it all the time. No big deal” I decided to go surfing with my son, friend Paul and his son. As soon as we got to the beach I received a call from my crying father. At first I thought, “no big deal, he always cries about everything”. He cries telling us bye sometimes. That’s just the way he is. I noticed this cry was different and didn’t stop. My father told me my mother was gone…

The doctors prepped my mother for surgery and gave her the proper doses of everything she needed. The surgery was to be 30 min. total. A routine surgery. I’m sure there is much more detail to include but i’m a little lost when it comes to that. Everything was ready and the doctor was just about to start when Mom went into Cardiac arrest and flat lined. One doctor tried for 45 min. to revive her and it didn’t work. The doctor came in an told my father the news. Dad called me to get me to the hospital so we could be together. I was in total disbelief and very shocked and not sure what to do. What can you do? Nothing… You can’t reverse death. I called my brother to inform him we were purchasing a ticket to fly him in the next morning to be with us. My friend Paul called his wife and a few others to start praying for our family. The doctor called his mother right then to have her start praying for our family and one of the nurses from our church who was attending at the hospital that day started praying and made a call herself. It took us 45 min to get to hospital, the same amount of time the doctor was performing CPR and it didn’t work. As I walked in with my son I didn’t know what to do, say or expect. I hugged my dad and we were both upset, helpless and lost. I was lost without my mother and dad was lost without his best friend. What do you do when your best friend of 37 years isn’t there anymore? Just then the doctor came in and told us. “I don’t know what happened but she’s back. Her heart just started again and we are trying to stabilize her!” Well, We were pretty damn happy about that! though she had been gone for a while and might have brain damage. We wouldn’t know for some time if she did and how severe it would be.

A note from the American Heart Association – Brain death and permanent death start to occur in just 4 to 6 minutes after someone experiences cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can be reversed if it’s treated within a few minutes with an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat. This process is called defibrillation. A victim’s chances of survival are reduced by 7 to 10 percent with every minute that passes without CPR and defibrillation. Few attempts at resuscitation succeed after 10 minutes.

Mom was stabilized and being watched very closely. We were brought in to see her and she didn’t look so great. Here eyes were dilated and looked black and she was pretty unresponsive until the doctor yelled SUSAN! She started moving then but no-one knew if it was just the brains natural reaction or if it was her. Many things happened between that time and the next morning. Too much to type here. I could write a short book about the entire event. We walked in the next morning to a responsive Susan Stains! Wow! We still didn’t know if she was going to have brain damage or not. We all stayed by her bed and didn’t want to leave. She would wake up and take a little look around and go back to sleep. Her wrist were strapped to the bed so she didn’t hurt herself. We still didn’t know if she was all there… She was trying to move to pull at the tube going in her mouth and other things. She had no idea what happened. Eventually she shook her head yes and no to answer doctors questions and the straps came off! It took a while but we finally figured out she wanted a pen and pad to write on! She started writing and it didn’t even look like words as she looked to my Dad, brother and I to answer her questions. She kept writing and writing until we could finally see some form of letters. Finally a message appeared “What happened?” Smiles all around the room! The next few questions were, Where am I?  What time is it? What day is it? She looked to be just fine.. great but still waiting to see. She kept pointing to the tube in her throat and finally wrote something else down – ANNOYING! Ha! the tube is annoying. I think at that point we knew she was ok! My mom and dad have now been married 39 years.

Wendy and I brought my mother to Maggie Valley North Carolina for the first time in her life this year. We all plan on making the most of our lives and want to quit taking it for granted. Time is short here and your family is the most important thing you will ever have. Don’t let the little annoying things in life keep you down and take up your time. Look for, and take great joy in the little things that make you happy. A smile, a kiss, the wind in you hair or on your bald head i my case! Enjoy the blessing of life everyday! Spend time with your family and take pictures often to remember the great times you have. Splurge and get some professional family pictures taken once a year to preserve the history you have. We have started the tradition of having a family picture every year. Of course it’s by me but that’s one of the perks of being a professional photographer! I know my Mother and Father as well as Wendy and I treasure the family pictures we take every year and I never want to miss a year from now on. It’s a great documentation of the family and a reminder of where you are and where you’ve come from that year.

Best Friends of 39 years. (My inspiration)

If you are wanting great family photography and don’t know where to turn, give me a call. I’ll give you some great pictures you and your family will cherish for the rest of your lives.

He’s Iron Man, Superman, Spiderman – a pirate, an inventor, an artist, a photographer! avid movie watcher, dog trainer, hell raiser (sometimes) He just finished a year of tutoring and has become a great reader. He’s an amazing inspiration to his family, gets asthma flareups and plays right through them. He’s a fighter and has more energy than 20 hyperactive kids and likes to try to steal my coffee! He likes waffles every morning and pizza every night, juice boxes for every drink and cookie dough ice-cream for every dessert. He hates to wash his hair and doesn’t want to waist valuable play time in the bath or shower.

He’s the child of divorced parents, both of whom love him very much! He’s Loved by everyone who meets him and sometimes still feels alone. He’s a great listener and deep thinker and sometimes troubled by those thoughts, he’s a fiercely devoted friend, loves with his whole heart, cares for everyone, gives all of himself to anyone without wanting anything in return. He can hug you harder than a bear. He’s his dad’s best friend and wrestling, sword fighting partner. He’s the best damn kid anyone could ask for.

If you know and love Nate, or even if you don’t, leave him a comment at the bottom of this post to be shown to him on his upcoming birthday  (November 13th) and pass it around!
